The Bravery of Constable Kamlesh Kumari Yadav

Constable Kamlesh Kumari was the first woman martyred in the line of duty in the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament on 13 December 2001. She is also the first woman policeman to be awarded the Ashok Chakra.

Kamlesh Kumari Yadav was posted at Iron Gate No. 1 next to Building Gate No. 11 of Parliament House. [1] An Ambassador brand car, whose license plate number is DL 3C J 1527, drove towards the gate from Vijay Chowk. She was the first security officer to approach the car and, realizing something was wrong, ran back to her post to seal the gate. and were unable to travel further due to Kumari’s foresight, started firing. Kamlesh was hit by 11 bullets in his stomach. The attack took place at 11:50 in the morning.

Kamlesh Kumari Yadav’s alertness prevented a suicide bomber among the terrorists from carrying out his plan; The closing of Gate No. 1 and the sounding of the alarm gave time to other security personnel to take charge of the situation and kill the potential attacker.
